Section 508 (and the WCAG 2.2 AA standard it points to) requires that electronic documents, including PDFs, be usable with assistive technology. WebAbility gets there two ways: a semantic, screen-reader-friendly HTML view of the document, and, for standard PDFs, a downloadable tagged PDF/UA file you can keep, print, and archive. Either one is a real, working alternative, not a workaround.

WebAbility produces an accessible HTML view for reading online, and for standard PDFs it also produces a downloadable tagged PDF/UA version, a portable file with the reading order, headings, tables, and alt text baked in, so it works in Acrobat and any other PDF reader with no dependency on our viewer. XFA-format forms aren't auto-tagged; those are flagged for human review instead.

Structural tags mapped to the visual layout, reading order that matches how the page is meant to be read, form fields with programmatic names and labels, alt text on images and figures, and document-level metadata (title, language) set correctly. Each processed document gets a conformance report recording what was checked and what was fixed, so you have something to show, not just a claim.

The per-document conformance report is built for exactly that: attach it to a VPAT, an RFP response, or an internal compliance file as evidence of what was remediated on a given document. AI drafts the tagging, reading order, and image descriptions, then every AI-drafted image description is flagged for a person to confirm before it ships. Nothing is presented as final until it's been reviewed. Automated processing handles the bulk of a document; genuinely ambiguous content (a chart with no caption, a scanned signature) is flagged for human review rather than guessed at.

Scanned pages go through OCR to recover a real text layer before tagging, so a screen reader has text to read instead of a picture of text. Where the scan quality makes that unreliable, the page is flagged for human review rather than shipped with guessed content.
